Old tires usually end up in landfills or forgotten in garages. But when Lisa — a stay-at-home mom with a passion for DIY and a tiny backyard — saw one lying by the side of the road, she had a wild idea.
Instead of tossing it, she hauled it home in her hatchback, pulled out a can of bright pink spray paint, and transformed her dull patio into something straight out of a Pinterest board.
“Everyone thought I was crazy,” she laughs.
“But I just wanted something fun, colorful, and unique… without spending a dime.”
Old tires are dirty! Scrub off mud and grease using soapy water and let it dry completely in the sun.
Wearing gloves, carefully cut petal-like shapes into the tire’s edge. This is optional — Lisa did it to give hers a flower-like border that looks adorable once painted.
Tip: You can keep the tire whole for a round planter or flip it inside out to get a “blooming flower” effect.
This part shocked us: Lisa turned the tire inside out. It’s tough — you’ll need strength — but once flipped, the tire curves into a flower-petal shape that looks handcrafted.
“It was the hardest part,” Lisa says. “But totally worth it!”
Lay down cardboard or newspaper. Then spray the entire tire with your chosen paint color. Lisa picked neon pink for a bold pop, but you can go pastel, gold, or even rainbow.
Let it dry thoroughly — 2 coats are best.
And just when we thought Lisa’s project was finished…
She did something we didn’t expect.
She hung it on her garden wall — and what she added next made it even more genius.
👉 You won’t believe what she used to fill it — or how it turned into a centerpiece.
