You Won’t Believe What That Pull-Out Cutting Board In Your Kitchen Was Actually Designed For!

If you are like most homeowners, you probably have a cutting board in your kitchen. It is one of those kitchen tools that we take for granted, but did you know that cutting boards have been used for centuries? In fact, pull-out cutting boards were originally designed for breadmaking.

Cutting boards are essential for any kitchen. They provide a clean and stable surface for chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients. However, the original purpose of pull-out cutting boards was not for general food preparation, but specifically for breadmaking. The baker would knead the dough and shape it into loaves on a large pull-out cutting board. The board would then be used as a surface for the bread to rise and then be placed in the oven.

Today, cutting boards are used for a variety of purposes beyond just breadmaking. They are used for preparing meats, vegetables, and fruits, and can be made from a variety of materials such as plastic, bamboo, and wood. However, wood-cutting boards, particularly those made from maple, are considered to be the best option for a variety of reasons.

Not only is maple a hard and durable wood that can withstand frequent use and knife cuts, but it is also resistant to bacteria growth. Maple cutting boards are easier to maintain than other materials such as plastic or bamboo, which can develop grooves and scratches that can harbor bacteria.

To maintain your cutting board, it is important to clean it properly after each use. You can do this by using a mixture of baking soda or kosher salt and lemon to scrub away any stains or odors. Rinse the board thoroughly with hot water and dry it with a clean towel. It is also recommended to apply a food-grade cutting board oil to keep the wood from drying out and prevent it from cracking.

While cutting boards may have evolved over time and serve a variety of purposes in the kitchen, they remain an essential tool for home cooks and professional chefs alike. With proper care and maintenance, a good quality cutting board can last for years and provide a clean and safe surface for preparing food.
