I dug through the drawer where cables go to die, checked the little plastic tray the phone shipped in, even peeked under the table. Nothing. Turns out that scramble is basically a rite of passage. A sim card remover is just a thin metal pin that pops open the hidden tray holding your SIM card. Almost every phone ships with one, and almost everyone loses it eventually.
The tool itself is nothing fancy. It’s a thin stainless pin, usually with a little looped or flat handle, and one job. You push the tip into a small pinhole set right beside the SIM tray on your phone.
Inside, that push releases a spring-loaded latch and the tray slides free. That’s the whole mechanism. No screws, no prying, no force if you’ve lined it up right.
Most phones come with one of these pins tucked into the box, often pressed into the cardboard so you don’t even notice it. Which is exactly why it vanishes. It’s small, it looks like packaging, and it ends up in the recycling or the bottom of a drawer within a week.
The good news is they cost almost nothing. You can buy them in multipacks online, and a single pin fits most phones and tablets because the pinhole size is pretty standard across brands.

One thing worth knowing: iPhone and Android don’t always keep the tray in the same spot, and it shifts by model too. On some phones the tray sits on the right edge, on others the left, and a few tuck it near the top. If you don’t feel a hole where you expect one, run a finger along all four edges before assuming yours is different.
When the real tool is missing, a few everyday things do the same job. The classic is a paperclip, straightened out so one end is a clean thin point. That’s what I grabbed at the table, and it worked on the first push.

The rule I go by: if the tip doesn’t slide in with almost no pressure, stop. A bent or oversized point pressing against the latch at the wrong angle can do quiet damage you won’t notice until the tray refuses to eject next time. When in doubt, find something thinner rather than pushing harder.
