I thought these old metal bread boxes were junk until I saw what she turned them into

Finished vintage wall organizer made from three old metal bread boxes

Variations & Tips

Color choice: If you want a more timeworn look, use chalky white, pale blue, or buttery cream, then lightly distress the edges with fine sandpaper after the paint cures.

Use by room: This organizer works nicely in the kitchen for napkins and recipes, in a mudroom for gloves and mail, or in a potting shed for seed packets and twine.

No mounting board option: If your bread boxes are especially sturdy and all the same size, you can hang them directly on the wall in a vertical row, though I prefer the board because it keeps everything straight and adds strength.

Rust control: Surface rust is fine, but if you have deeper rust spots, sand them thoroughly and use a rust-inhibiting primer so the finish lasts longer.

Style detail: Original handles, vents, and latches are worth keeping whenever possible. Those little old-fashioned details are what make this project feel collected rather than newly bought.

Weight reminder: Keep heavier items in the lowest bread box so the organizer hangs more securely and feels balanced on the wall.
